Colour and black & white photographs of ships are available for purchase from
the negative collection held by the Editor of The Log, Russell Priest - see
Down Under Ship Photographs.
Over
15,000 ships are represented in the collection, which consists of vintage images
taken in the main by such well-known ship photographers as Jim Freeman in Port
Adelaide and Sydney, David Finch in Sydney, Lindsay Rex in Hobart, the late
Bill Volum in Geelong and the late Bruce Nicol in Wellington.
Colour negatives of more recent vessels include the work of Douglas Cromby in
the UK, Hans Krayenbosch and Kees Loos in Holland, Kevin Jones in Durban and
Ross Walker in Dundedin, as well as Mike Carolin and Russell Priest himself, who
has photographed in Melbourne, Geelong and Singapore.
The collection contains an almost complete record of Australian and New Zealand
shipping since World II, with some shots predating that. A comprehensive record
of post-war British and European shipping, particularly those vessels which
traded to New Zealand and Australia, is also held.
There are regular photograph offers, but enquiries for any vessels are welcome and should be addressed to Russell Priest, 2/326 High St, Lower Templestowe, Vic 3107 Australia, or email waimea@bigpond.com.au
